Annual Appeal 2023-2024

All of us at the Maine Art Gallery are deeply grateful for your support throughout our 65th Anniversary season which saw an increase in membership, higher visitor attendance, improved sales and the return of the Wiscasset student art show.

The commitment and hard work of our Trustees, our staff, our exhibiting artists and our volunteers earned us the independent praise of the press that recognized our Generations Exhibition as “a landmark show in the history of art in Maine.” The quality of this anniversary exhibition was echoed in a season of shows that
afforded expanded opportunities for our members to present their best creative work.

As stewards of the historic Academy Building, using grants from Maine Preservation/The 1772 Foundation and the Belvedere Historic Preservation and Energy Efficiency Program of the Maine Community Foundation and matching funds from the Town of Wiscasset, we repaired and restored the building’s exterior woodwork, including the

eaves, doors, window frames and shutters. Similar repairs and weather-proofing of our cupola are our next priority.

These accomplishments represent significant steps in our strategic plan, but more remains to be done to reach our goal to transform our early 19th century schoolhouse into an up-to-date 21st century arts destination that showcases the best of Maine Art by those who make it and for those who appreciate it. To help us move ahead to an even better season next year with expanded programming, enhanced technical tools to facilitate our professional staffing, and continued preservation and improvement of our gallery, we need your continued financial support and volunteer efforts. Enroll or renew now for the new year and consider a generous contribution or pledge of time. We urge members who can do so to become Patrons of the gallery.

You may submit your membership renewal and/or donation using the downladable form below or going to our Join/Donate page. We accept credit card payments—and ask you to consider adding 3% to your charge to help defray processing costs.

With the heartfelt appreciation of the entire Board of Trustees for your continuing support,
- Richard Riese
President, Board of Trustees
