"Paint Wiscasset" Plein Air Event 2022

Plein air painters are welcome to participate, and all are welcome to come see the event and enjoy the exhibit. Painters begin the morning of June 29. Their previously painted dry works will be available to view at the gallery starting 1pm of June 29.
​
​On Saturday, July 2, we are open 4pm to 7pm for our Paint Wiscasset reception with newly painted works available for sale, along with refreshments and the announcement of awards around 6pm. The show runs through July 9.
​
How to Enter as a Participating Artist:

All participating artists spots are filled!

Participating artists had to reserve their spot in advance by submitting this reservation form by downloading it, filling it out, and mailing it with their check to Maine Art Gallery, 15 Warren St., Wiscasset, ME, 04578.

Reservation fee is $25 for members, and $35 for nonmembers.
​
Gallery commission is 35%.
​
The event will be held rain or shine, so please come prepared.

Rules for Participating Artists:
​
Dry and Wet Works:
​
You may show a total of 8 paintings (4 wet and 4 dry). If a dry painting sells, you may replace it with another painting.
​
All wet works must be started and completed en plein air during the event. All wet works to be shown must be ready to hang.
​
Labeling, Stamping, and Artwork Inventory:
​
Each painting must be accompanied by an artwork label name, title, medium, and selling price. Artwork Inventory sheets and blank labels will be provided ahead of time. Inventory information and labels must match. Labels must be attached on the bottom right side of the painting.
​
Artists must have all canvasses/panels/paper stamped at the Maine Art Gallery between 8am and 10am on Wednesday, June 29, before painting. Only wet paintings with a visible Maine Art Gallery stamp will be accepted for the exhibit. There is no limit to the number of canvases that may be stamped.
​
​Outdoor Locations and Indoor Assigned Space:
Artists may paint any subject of their choosing within Wiscasset and at designated areas listed in our instructions.
Artist are assigned a panel or wall to display their artwork in the gallery. The panel will be labelled with your name.

Rules about Materials:
Previously toned canvases are permitted, otherwise blank canvases and watercolor papers will be stamped.
Maximum canvas size is 18” x 24”, or the equivalent in square inches.
Media permitted: Oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, pencil, and pastel.

Prizes:
​
A Best of Show prize of $250 will be awarded to the most accomplished painting. There will also be a Special Recognition Award, an Honorable Mention Award, and People’s Choice Award at values to be determined.

Schedule for Participating Artists:

Wednesday, June 29, 8:30am to 10am
Required Artist Registration and Dry Works Drop Off:
Artists must complete their reservation for a spot in advance.
Artists who have made their reservation and paid the fee will arrive at the gallery to have all blank canvases, panels, and, or paper stamped. You will be given a name tag, rack cards, artwork labels, maps of Wiscasset and Lincoln County, and possible sites will be provided to registered painters. Please bring a printed brief biography to have on display in our gallery.

Artists will drop off the dry works to be shown with their labels and matching inventory sheet between 8:30am and 10am, as well. Inventory sheets and labels are provided ahead of time.
Light Breakfast will be available at the gallery from 8am to 9:30am on June 29 only. Water and light snacks will be available during the day from 11 am until 4 pm, June 29 through July 1. Bathroom facilities will also be available during normal gallery hours.
Thursday, June 30 – Gallery is open from 11am to 7pm to Include Art Walk:
Artists are invited and encouraged to paint during the Wiscasset Art Walk, which is held in the first block of downtown Wiscasset from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 30.
Friday, July 1 – Gallery open from 11 until 4pm
Saturday, July 2, 9am - 7pm – Wet Work Drop Off and Evening Reception:
All wet works that will be shown must be delivered to the gallery between 9am and 10am with their labels and your inventory sheet. Work will be hung that day, and the public will be welcomed at the reception between 4pm and 7pm. Around 6pm, the artist awards will be presented.
Saturday, July 9: – Artists must pick up all unsold works between 4pm and 6pm.
