She begins many of her paintings in her sketchbook(s). Tools for sketching are easy to carry while hiking in the woods or sitting on the beach, or traveling to some special location. In 2005, following her term as resident artist for Musee de la Grande in France, her sketches were among her most sought after pieces of art. Sketching continues to be a nearly daily practice. Diane is a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society and International Plein Air Painters, and several local and regional organizations. She participates in a variety of sketching groups via the internet and in person.
