Daisy Greene is in her heart and soul a Maine artist, and her paintings are expressions of her love of the state. They remind us of tapestries that capture the Maine landscapes, its birds, sunshine, winters, pine forests, and coastal villages. Her style is both starkly realistic and abstract, with bold strokes in patterns and colors evocative of the coastal landscape.
When asked to make a short statement about her work, Greene replied, “ I just paint.” On further reflection, she states that her work is as much a journey for the artist as the viewer. “In each painting there is always a space to move into, a place for the light to take us…a mystery, and edge, but with a promise.”
Greene has exhibited at the Creative Art Center in Chatham, and in Brewster, Massachusetts She has exhibited frequently in Damariscotta, Maine galleries including the Firehouse Gallery, the Stable Gallery, and the Roundtop Center for the Arts..Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the US, Canada and Scotland.

Abby Shahn
Abby Shahn has been living and working in Maine since 1969; she is one of the state's most important and celebrated artists. She sees rhythm as the basis of all art. Of her inspiration, she explains, “I have lived in rural Maine for many years. This fact seems crucial to me in trying to describe who I am and what my art is all about. I feel that the isolation from the ‘art world’ and from current trends in art has had both good and bad effects. On one hand, I’m more than glad to be free of the dictates of style and of the marketplace.
