Members Show 2021 Rules & Info

- Show Runs: May 15 to June 5 -
 

The title of this year's Members Show is “What inspires Me” as an artist. Please be sure to email a brief statement about your source of inspiration to jepena@ufl.edu. For instance, you might be inspired by your family, by friends, Covid 19 experiences, by other painters’ artwork, or by colors, shapes, seasons, and memories, etc. Not yet a member or need to renew? OVERVIEW:

  • Mediums accepted: 2D, 3D work.

  • All artwork must be listed as for sale.

  • Work must be original. No reproductions will be accepted, with exceptions for printmaking and photography.

  • Artwork must be gallery ready.


2 D WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • All wall-mounted work must be wired or have D-rings for hanging (or note method of presentation upon entry). We do not accept sawtooth hangers.

  • Diptychs/triptychs are considered a single work, and must be entered as a single.

  • No fresh paint work will be accepted.

  • Because of the number of artists wishing to enter 2D artwork, artists can enter up to 5 pieces if the total area of the whole artwork does not exceed 1,600 square inches. Those wishing to exhibit artwork beyond that, must limit their entry to one.  

  • Total weight of wall-mounted work must not exceed 50lbs.

3D WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • Total weight of 3D work must not exceed 100lbs.

  • Wall-mounted 3D work should be wired for hanging, artists must supply appropriate installation materials.

  • The Maine Art Gallery has a limited number of pedestals. Pedestals can be reserved with the MAG show organizers upon acceptance. If artwork requires a pedestal of a specific size, the pedestal must be provided by the artist.

SUBMISSION DETAILS:
This exhibition is open to all member artists. All persons wishing to exhibit in this show, must be a member in good standing at the time of entering the show.
Heavy 3D work must be handled by the artist or by a person designated by her/him.

ARTWORK DELIVERY AND PICKUP:

  • Art delivery will be accepted May 8 - May 11, from 10 am to 3 pm. If the artist needs to do a delivery before these dates and times, please contact, J. E. Pena at 207-882-4155.

  • Art can be picked up between 4 -5 pm on June 5, and between 10am - 4 pm, June 6 - 7.

  • If you do not pick up work from the show on the scheduled dates, you will be charged a $15 per week storage fee.

  • Work unclaimed after 90 days becomes property of the gallery.


COMMISSION RATE:
The Maine Art Gallery takes 30% of the total retail price for Artist Members' sold pieces.


LIABILITY:
Artists participating in the exhibitions assume all responsibility for their artwork, in the event of any damage or loss, resulting from any cause. The Maine Art Gallery is not responsible for work that is damaged in any way or for the loss of work by fire, theft, or any other means. The Maine Art Gallery is a secure environment, but all responsibility rests with the exhibitor.


PUBLICITY:
The gallery mails postcards, uses social media platforms and email blasts. We do printed ads in different newspapers and magazines. We encourage all artists to reach out to their personal mailing lists to promote exhibition featuring their artwork. We reserve the right to photograph accepted works for publicity purposes.
