Art to Table: Visual Sustenance
May 7 - June 14
Thursday - Sunday, 11am - 4pm
This exhibition examines our individual and communal relationships to what we eat through works that elevate ingredients, meals, and rituals around food. Art to Table offers a look into how visual components influence desire, memory, and meaning while informing our emotional, cultural, and perhaps ethical relationship to food and each other.
Humans of all cultures have long considered the aesthetics of nourishment and the stories contained in each dish. Close to home, the people of Maine have always had an intimate relationship with food, which has only become stronger as we have evolved into a mecca of the restaurant world and the farm-to-table movement.

Call for Art will be posted soon. Artists may enter to be in this juried March 10 through April 10.

Song of the Wild: Honoring the Natural Beauty of Maine

June 18 - July 26
Thursday - Sunday, 11am - 4pm
Maine Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of the work of ten esteemed Maine artists in celebration of the natural beauty of Maine. Artists and co-curators Emily Sabino and Jane Dahmen have chosen work showcasing a variety of visual homages to wild places in Maine, including: aerial views of ocean and islands; terrestrial immersion in birches and white pine groves; close-ups of insects, healing plants and amphibians; and abstract visual interpretations of Maine fields and forests. In addition, they have partnered with Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust to present an expansive educational component in the programming.
The ten artists representing various mediums are: landscape painters Eric Hopkins, Jane Dahmen, Sarah Farragher and Matt Barter; fresco artist Barbara Sullivan; mixed media artist Lesia Sochor; photographer Liv Kristin Robinson; and abstract painters, Katherine Shagas, Joy Vaughan and Emily Sabino.
A primary reason people often give for either moving to Maine or loving to live here is the bounty of nature we’re blessed with. This show is bound to appeal to art lovers and nature lovers alike.

The Art of Alchemy: Collage/Mixed Media Exploration

July 30 - September 6
Thursday - Sunday, 11am - 4pm
This collage and mixed media juried show, running on the second floor concurrently with Plein Air: Paint It Maine on the first floor, will allow artists the opportunity to create artworks of multiple mediums combined in one work. Works will incorporate disparate materials such as paper, paint, photographic images, fabric, and ephemera affixed to a support, or create a three-dimensional object. Originating with Picasso and his Cubist colleagues, the collage technique has evolved to offer a wonderful range of representational and abstract possibilities, creating array of colors, textures, and patterns. The concept of mixed media is broader than collage, encompassing it and any form of combining different media to create a work of art. We encourage our contributing artists to allow their imaginations to run playfully wild as they create work for this show.
Call for Art will be posted in advance. Artists may enter to be in this juried show between June 8 and July 6. We will have room for about 50 artists.
