Adults only. Location: Begin at the gallery and walk to nearby spots with group Materials: Bring anything you are comfortable taking photos with. This can be a cell phone camera, point-and-shoot, or high-end digital camera. Sorry, no film cameras. Description: Join David Griffin, former director of photography of National Geographic, for a three-hour workshop. After a 30-minute orientation about the types of cameras students are using and some basics, the class will go out shooting around the area of the gallery. Places will include the historic Old Academy building itself, the green spaces nearby, the old cemetery across the street, and the amazing Sunken Garden near the Nickels-Sortwell House. This part of Wiscasset is full of historic old homes as well as beautifully tended gardens. There are sure to be some birds about. After about 1.5 hours, the class will return to the gallery for an hour of critiquing. About the Instructor: David Griffin is the former director of photography at National Geographic. A graphic designer specializing in photographic projects and publications, some of his clients and former employers were The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian Enterprises, AARP and the National Wildlife Federation, The Washington Post, as well as US News and World Report. He recently retired to Dresden, ME, and became a board member of the Maine Art Gallery, where he has contributed his talents to various projects. This is his first time teaching for the gallery.
