DATE: JUNE 20; 9:30 am - 12:30 pm SIGN UP DEADLINE: JUNE 13 Instructor: Deena Ball COST: Members $60 (***MEMBERS use coupon code SIMPLEPLEINAIRMEMBER at checkout***) Non-Members: $65 Capacity: 12 Location: Start at Maine Art Gallery then on to painting location Materials List: - Hard-bound sketchbook - Black Sharpie pens (ultra-thin, thin, and thick) - Colored pencils if you have them - A pencil, and any other drawing implements you enjoy using. - Remember to bring anything else you need personally to spend the morning outside. This is introductory course caters to all artistic mediums. We'll be doing preliminary work that's adaptable to any medium, reserving actual painting for the afternoon sessions. If you're interested in plein-air painting, taking this and "Painting Plein Air-All Media" (see combo class listing to sign up for both) will provide you with the best learning experience. You'll learn principles in the morning and apply them in the afternoon painting session. In this three-hour workshop, you will learn how to simplify the landscape and create a painting plan by working from life outside. The topics we will cover include: ·    Selecting a subject ·    Creating a clear focus ·    Capturing the quality of light To achieve these goals, students will learn to use several tools that aid in decision-making for better paintings. These tools include: ·    Notans ·    Value Studies ·    Color Proportion Squares ·    Directional Lines ·    Shape Massing About Deena Ball:​ Deena Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter. After 35 years of painting in the beautiful Brandywine Valley of Pennsylvania, she returned to painting the mountains and shore of Maine. She holds a BA in Art History and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville, ME, and continued her studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Tyler School of Art. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and can be found in “Watercolor Artist” and several annual publications of “Splash”. Deena is an active teaching artist for both adults and children. Recent presentations have been for Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Onodaga Art Society and Salem County Art Society. Deena is also a signature member of Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and is a Pennsylvania Guild Master Craftsman.
